Your home life may feel volatile and unpredictable some of the time, but normal - or even picture-perfect - the rest of the time. You may be more afraid of what will happen if you leave than you are of what will happen if you stay. Maybe you have moments in which you know, without a doubt, that you must do something to make it stop, but feel helpless to pull yourself out of the situation. If this sounds familiar, please reach out to Empower Tehama. Talking to an advocate in-person or over the phone won't obligate you to do anything further. It's just good to know what your options are. Whether you want to stay or leave, we're here for you. It's up to you.

24-hour Crisis Hotline
Empower Tehama's Crisis Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call whether you plan to leave, just need to talk or have specific questions. Just call. 530-528-0226.

Crisis Counseling
A state of crisis can be brought on by recent abuse, fear of continued abuse or even memories of past abuse. It's hard to think straight when you're in crisis, and it can even cause you to doubt if you're truly seeing things the way they are. It helps to talk to an advocate trained on the effects of domestic violence, in a place you know is safe. Empower Tehama is that place, and a certified Domestic Violence Crisis Counselor is always available between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and 24/7 on the Crisis Hotline.
Legal Advocacy & Assistance
You don't have to do it alone. Get help filling out and filing protective orders and help with family and civil matters that were caused by victimization. Legal advocates are available to provide support and accompaniment during court proceedings. If you've chosen to participate in criminal justice matters that hold offenders accountable - like providing a statement to law enforcement or testifying in court - Empower Tehama can help you understand how that system works and stay by your side through the entire process.
Support Groups
As alone as you may feel right now, you'll be reassured to hear that you aren’t the only one who's gone through this situation. Many survivors have reported that talking with fellow survivors, learning about healing and getting the tools to create a safe future can be life-changing. Support groups are facilitated by trained staff and include both a psycho-educational component and opportunities to talk about your experience and listen to the experiences of fellow survivors. Emergency Shelter & Transitional Housing
Your safety is our top priority. Shelter & Transitional Housing are temporary places to stay when you have no other safe place to go because of domestic violence. Shelter and Transitional Housing are secure - nobody can enter without authorization, so you know you're safe. Empower Tehama's Transitional Housing facility is a place to live semi-independently while you prepare to get your own residence. A Housing Case Manager will work with you to address issues that might be making it difficult to obtain permanent housing, and they will help you find permanent housing.

Rental Assistance Program
Getting on your feet can be a challenge after experiencing trauma. If you are homeless due to domestic violence and are having trouble establishing a safe place of your own, Empower Tehama may be able to help you get started. In this program, a Housing Case Manager will work with you to help address issues that might make it hard to keep your housing once you graduate from the program. To find out if the Rental Assistance Program is right for you, drop in at Empower Tehama's Business Center between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and ask for a Housing Application.
